Director (Semiconductor Practice)

Directors work in teams and directly with our portfolio companies and partner companies. In this role you will have the opportunity to work with and in the best organizations in the world solve some of their most difficult problems to deliver impact to companies’ strategic, financial and operational performance.

What will you do?

As a Director, you will be responsible for the delivery of advisory projects, leading project teams of 2-4 Associates to enable them to find the right approach, motivate them to deliver on time and to achieve long-term impact. You will drive the majority of the project related interactions – usually on site – ensuring constructive collaboration across various levels of partner or portfolio companies.

You will make an important contribution to the analysis, design, and implementation of business performance approaches, developing tailor-made solutions, and working closely with partner companies to ensure positive impact and sustainable results. Project work typically includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing recommendations for presentation to senior management. From there, you will implement those recommendations with partner team members.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the day-to-day leader on client engagements, managing a team of consultants to drive strategic and operational transformations.
  • Lead semiconductor-focused transformation projects by driving workstreams across strategy, operations, finance, product development, etc.
  • Understand the nuances of semiconductor processes, identify inefficiencies, synthesize insights, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Owning the project planning and process management and communicating progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Driving development of the content, either directly or by providing guidance to the project team (for example, by sharing ideas, frameworks or providing input on research and analysis). Support detailed technical and operational analyses, including but not limited to market assessments, cost and yield improvements, CAPEX planning, and process optimization.
  • Managing project scope and maintaining an acceptable pace of work.
  • Actively managing various stakeholder relationships.
  • Leading all critical presentations and meetings.
  • Providing apprenticeship and coaching to junior members of the team to help develop their problem solving and execution skills, including sharing knowledge and experience, giving frequent feedback and creating opportunities for team members to learn and grow.
  • Contributing to the development of intellectual property within the Practice Area(s), including improving methodologies, tools, techniques and developing new ideas and approaches.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering from a top-tier institution; an MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in:
    • Strategy or operations consulting with exposure to semiconductor or technology clients, or
    • Engineering or technical roles within a leading semiconductor/tech company
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor products and value chain; deep expertise in sectors such as industrials, manufacturing, energy, consumer, or PE is a plus
  • Solid functional knowledge, including but not limited to strategy, business development, manufacturing, supply chain, product development, project management, marketing, and sales.
  • Track record of high performance and substantial achievements in project leadership with proven results and significant impact.
  • Outstanding records of academic and managerial, or professional achievement.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment.
  • Initiative taker, eager to break new ground, creates opportunities for others.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.
  • Skills to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • The position is ideally based in San Jose CA or New York City, NY. Alternate locations may be considered for ideal profiles.
